Things remained pretty much the same for both Ocean Springs and George County Friday night.
The homestanding Greyhounds, in their first game of the season at Hugh Pepper Field, smacked the visiting Rebels 36-0 as OSHS moved to 3-0 on the season and GCHS fell to 0-3 on the young campaign.
Ocean Springs has now won six out of the last seven meetings in this annual series and 10 out of the last 12 games. The Greyhounds have also won 13 straight regular season games, while the Rebels have lost four straight games dating back to last season.
The Greyhounds wasted no time in taking a quick lead that they would never relinquish, as sophomore standout tailback Will Smith raced 61 yards on the second play of the game for six points.
It would get much worse for the Rebels fairly quickly, as OS pinned GC back deep with a punt on its next possession which resulted in Kenderek Weathers sacking Rebels quarterback Deuce Knight in the end zone for a safety and a 9-0 lead.
Minutes later, Greyhound defensive end Bryant Ausmer recovered a GCHS fumble at the Rebel 24, and several plays later Bryshen Smith scored on an 18-yard run to make it 16-0.
Smith was back at it early in the second stanza, racing 35 yards to paydirt for a 23-0 lead.
Just minutes later, Ocean Spring senior standout signal-caller Brayson Hubbard scampered 76 yards on a quarterback draw to move the Greyhound advantage to 30-0 midway through the period.
Ocean Springs kicker Bart Edminston, who was perfect on four extra point attempts in the opening half, then booted a 32-yard field goal on the last play before intermission to send the teams to the locker room at 33-0 at halftime.
That play was set up by a 57-yard run by Hubbard on the preceding play.
Edminston also added a 27-yard field goal early in the fourth frame.
Things could have actually been worse for GCHS, but Rebel defenders Gage Reeves (interception) and Will Evans (fumble recovery) stopped potential OSHS scoring drives with big plays.
Both teams are off next week before beginning their respective region schedules the following week.
