Both the Biloxi boys and girls teams as well as The Pascagoula Panthers and the D’Iberville Lady Warriors all clinched regions championships in Class 6A play Friday night.
In Lyman, the Indians and Lady Indians swept the titles in Region 8-6A each with wins over home-standing Harrison Central as the Biloxi boys held off the Red Rebels 72-66 and the Lady Indians beat the HCHS girls 39-29.
The top-seeded Indians completed a clean eight-game sweep of action in the region, including a 6-0 mark in the regular season, with the win in the title tilt to move to 23-3 overall on the season. The loss for the fourth-seeded Red Rebels overshadowed a bit an outstanding performance by Aujaylen Barron for Harrison Central as he poured in a game-high 32pts in a losing effort.
Harrison Central will open the Class 6A state playoffs at home on Tuesday while Biloxi has an opening round bye and will open at home as well Friday night.
The Biloxi Lady Indians moved to 22-6 overall with the 10-point win. Senior standout Shaneal Corpuz posted a double-double in the region-clinching win as she tallied a game-high 18 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds as well while sophomore guard Amari Meredith added nine points for the Lady Indians. Anaisha Carriere led HCHS with 10 points and her little sister 8th-grader Jayla Carriere added nine points.
