MOSS POINT—The Ocean Springs girls held off Moss Point 20-16 and the Ocean Springs boys defeated Moss Point 66-43 in high school basketball on Tuesday night at Arthur Haynes Gymnasium.
The girls game started slowly with Ocean Springs leading 6-5 at the end of the first quarter.
With Moss Point going scoreless in the second quarter, Ocean Springs took advantage and went into halftime leading 8-5.
In the third quarter, Ocean Springs’ Moriah Jackson made a 3-pointer and Ariana Cook made a 2-pointer for a 13-8 Lady Greyhounds lead going into the fourth.
Near the end of the game, the Lady Tigers had numerous chances to come back, but Jackson, Taylor Fairley, and Ka’Marrah Jimmerson combined to make five free throws as the Lady Greyhounds improved to 2-4.
Starr Jackson led the Lady Greyhounds with nine points.
The Lady Tigers fell to 3-5.
The boys game was a different situation.
Ocean Springs made a hot start to lead Moss Point 24-6 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Ocean Springs continued to make most of their shots to lead 43-18 going into halftime.
After halftime, Moss Point began to get in the groove, but Ocean Springs was too far ahead.
Elijah Isom scored 15 points, Kaleb Bradley had 14 and Maddox Noblitt added 11 to lead the Greyhounds, who improved to 6-2.
JuJuan Nettles scored 16 points and Quehhoy’Sean Taylor had 14 to lead the Tigers, who fell to 4-4.
