PERKINSTON — Charlie Keller and Simaru Fields have been named Bulldogs of the Week for March 4-10.

Keller, a sophomore third baseman/designated hitter from Mobile, Ala., slashed .556/.750/1.333 during a monster week for 3-1 Gulf Coast. He had two home runs and drove in six runs, while walking four times and getting hit by three pitches. His big game came in an 18-4 win over Mississippi Delta, where his three-run homer started the Bulldogs’ scoring before an RBI double later in the game.

Fields, a sophomore guard from Pass Christian, averaged 15 points and 4.5 rebounds while leading Gulf Coast to its first MACCC championship in 24 years with a pair of wins. She had 20 points and six rebounds in a 75-50 win over Northwest Mississippi, then had 10 points in a 67-63 win at Southwest Mississippi. In Summit, she made three critical free throws down the stretch to clinch the win.

Also nominated:

Gonzalo Cotter, a freshman from Valencia, Spain, won both matches against MACCC competition for No. 13 Gulf Coast.

Olivia Falcon, a freshman right-hander from St. Amant, La., allowed just two runs in 13 innings while going 1-1. She struck out eight and walked two.

Blake King, a sophomore right-hander from Petal, struck out eight in six innings of work to beat Mississippi Delta 6-3. He scattered six hits and walked one.

Omarion Smith, a sophomore forward from Atlanta, Ga., averaged 21.5 points while shooting 60 percent from the field during a 1-1 week for Gulf Coast. He had 18 points and seven rebounds in a 93-77 win over Northwest Mississippi, then poured in 25 points with eight rebounds in a 93-87 loss at Southwest Mississippi. He made 9-of-13 shots against the Bears and had two blocks in each game.

Lauren Sullivan, a freshman from Laurel, won both her matches against No. 22 Hinds while dropping only one game. She teamed with Mikenzy Dubrow to win No. 3 doubles 8-1 and didn’t drop a game in a win at No. 5 singles.
