POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River baseball’s Jeff Ince (Brandon; Jackson Prep) got the job done on the field and in the classroom during his time at Pearl River, and for his efforts, he has been named a College Sports Communicators Second Team Academic All-American.

The second baseman was selected in the Men’s At-Large College Division after earning a 3.61 GPA as a Finance major. The College Division includes two-year institutions, Canadian institutions and any United States four-year institutions that are not affiliated with the NCAA or NAIA.

“Jeffrey Ince personifies what coaches desire in student-athletes,” head coach Michael Avalon said. “On the field and off the field, Jeff set the example each day for his teammates and coaches. He’s a very talented player who had an unbelievable season and made sure to excel in the classroom. It is a well-deserved honor for Jeff and his family.”

In Ince’s lone season in Poplarville, the switch-hitter finished with an incredible .411 batting average, .514 on-base percentage and .632 slugging percentage. He racked up 12 doubles, eight homers and three triples, driving in 43 runs in the process. The second baseman also scored a program-record 82 runs in the season. Ince was named First Team All-MACCC, All-Region 23 and Region 23 Gold Glove winner when the year ended.

Ince joins softball’s Natalie Herrington (Petal) as CSC Academic All-American selections in 2024. Previous winners of the award are Team Member of the Year Graham Crawford (2021), Landon Gartman (2021) and Ronald Baker (2020).
