The usual Southern Six suspects are off to quick starts atop the standings in region volleyball play.

Ocean Springs and Gulfport both improved to 3-0 in Region 4-7A ahead of their Thursday night showdown in Ocean Springs.

The Lady Greyhounds are 14-4 overall after a three-set sweep of Biloxi (7-10, 0-3) while the Lady Admirals (15-3) kept pace with a three-set sweep of D’Iberville.

The Lady Warriors fell to 6-3 and 2-1 and travel to Harrison Central on Thursday night for a match with a playoff seeding on the line.

Harrison Central (15-3) picked up its first 4-7A win by sweeping St. Martin on Tuesday night. St. Martin travels to Biloxi on Thursday night with both teams looking to pick up their first region win.

In Region 4-6A, Hancock (14-6, 1-0) picked up where it left off last season. The defending South State champions defeated George County in four sets. The Lady Rebels fell to 6-4 and hit the road on Thursday to face West Harrison.

The Lady Hurricanes opened region play with a hard-fought five-set victory over Picayune and are 6-8 overall.

Long Beach also got off to a 1-0 start in region play with a victory over Pascagoula. The Lady Bearcats head to Kiln to face Hancock on Thursday night while Picayune travels to Pascagoula.

In Region 3-6A, Pearl River Central opened play by dropping a match to Hattiesburg in four sets. The schedule doesn’t get any easier for the Lady Blue Devils as they travel to Soso to take on defending region champion West Jones.

Region 4-5A saw Jackson County rivals East Central and Vancleave pick up three-set sweeps over Wayne County and Laurel, respectively.

Gautier joins its county neighbors atop this region as the Lady Gators opened with a three-set sweep of Stone. The Lady Gators travel to Hurley on Thursday night to take on East Central while Vancleave hosts Stone.

Wayne County and Laurel will match up, and both teams are looking for their first region win.

Region 8-4A got underway with Bay High sweeping Pass Christian and defending champion Poplarville sweeping Greene County.

Thursday night’s slate sees Poplarville traveling to the Pass looking to stay perfect while Moss Point opens division play with the Lady Tigers at Greene County.

OLA continues to roll in 8-3A. The Crescents improved to 15-1 and 2-0 with a three-set sweep of rival St. Patrick. The Lady Irish fell to 10-5 and 2-1.

OLA hosts West Marion while St. Patrick travels to Perry Central to round out the week.
