For the first time in five attempts, the West Harrison Hurricanes defeated the Moss Point Tigers on Friday night, dominating the game 48-13 at Dantzler Stadium.
The game was virtually over after the first half with West Harrison (4-1) leading 48-6.
Hurricanes running back Jordan Stapleton scored four touchdowns and racked up 233 total yards.

“It’s always a blessing to be able to coach and play in Dantzler Stadium, to think about all the great players and coaches that have been on this field,” said West Harrison coach Quincy Patrick. “Our guys came out and executed the game plan. Big game for both of our offensive and defensive lines.”
The Hurricanes offense accounted for 451 yards. Quarterback Demario Davies was 3-of-3 for 114 yards and two touchdowns.
Running back-by-committee members Trey Harris, Sean Fairley and Jeremy Jones combined for 200 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
Additionally, Fairley caught a 10-yard pass for a touchdown.

Defensively, the Hurricanes forced three turnovers and recorded two sacks and nine tackles for loss against the Tigers (0-5) to stop any potential threat.
While West Harrison linebacker Joshua Lane led the team in tackles, defensive linemen Jazear Carter and Othell Adkins Jr. combined for 11 tackles, five tackles for loss and two sacks.
Hurricanes defensive back Austin McInnis had two interceptions and two tackles for loss.

In their 16th year, the Hurricanes tied the school record for the best start in a season as it has for the last two years under Patrick. Patrick is in his seventh season and has the most wins in school history with 22.
“Our skill guys deserve the credit and publicity they get, but our linemen have played some pretty good ball,” said Patrick.  “Now I’m sure once I dive into the film, we have a lot to clean up.”
West Harrison will be off next week before playing at Brett Favre Field in Kiln on Oct. 11 in the Hurricanes’ Region 4-6A opener.
