Luck was just not on their side Friday night as the Long Beach Bearcats (2-4) dropped a third consecutive game, falling to the South Jones Braves 29-22 in overtime in Ellisville.

Scoring 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter and overtime, the Braves (4-2) held the Bearcats to only eight second-half points.

Long Beach scoring and stats

While the Bearcats accounted for only 278 total yards, running back Junior Brown returned to the sideline after sitting out the game against Petal on Sept. 27. Brown led Long Beach in rushing with 156 yards on 25 carries and a touchdown.

Long Beach’s all-purpose player, Andre Windham, finished with one rushing attempt for a 45-yard touchdown and caught the only Bearcats pass of the night, which was for 7 yards.

Quarterback Will Brady had 38 yards on nine carries and completed one pass on four attempts.

Running back Taj Aubert had the other touchdown for Long Beach and rushed for 32 yards on nine carries.

Defensive back Rashad Foxworth led the Bearcats in tackles with nine and lineman Jack Foreman and linebacker Gavin Sutherland combined for 11 tackles and two sacks.

Long Beach led 14-8 at halftime and 22-8 after the third quarter before South Jones scored 21 straight.

The Bearcats will play the George County Rebels at Lumpkin-Magee Stadium on Oct. 11. No word yet if George County quarterback Deuce Knight will play. Because of an injury, he sat out George County’s 48-21 loss to Hattiesburg last week.
