The Picayune Maroon Tide used an eight-run sixth inning to blow open a close game and defeat the Pascagoula Panthers 11-1 in six innings Tuesday night at Ingalls Field.
Parker Helton had a big night for the Tide as he pounded out four hits, including a triple, in five at-bats, drove in two runs, and scored two more.
Adding to the big offensive night for Picayune were Kyler King and Landon Franklin with two hits apiece, and Braxten Carter and Turner Pugh with two RBIs each. One of King’s hits was a double.
Picayune pitcher Cooper Moreaux silenced the Panthers’ bats over six innings, allowing three hits and one earned run. He struck out nine and walked three.
Carter opened the scoring for the Tide in the first inning with a two-out, two-run double. A sacrifice fly by Pugh pushed Picayune’s lead to 3-0 in the third inning.
Pascagoula’s only run came in the bottom of the fourth on a home run to left field by Griffin Wells, who also had a single.
Pascagoula starting pitcher Terry Lee was tagged with the loss. The right-hander pitched five innings and gave up two earned runs and seven hits. He walked three and struck out two. The Panthers’ pitching was hurt by five errors.
Pascagoula and Picayune will play again Friday night at the Tide’s home field.
