The annual Pass Christian Round Robin Tip-off Tournament wrapped up after three days of play over the weekend on Saturday.
The Hancock girls remained unbeaten with a big 61-23 win over the host Lady Pirates to move to 2-0. In the other girls game on the final day Presbyterian Christian out of Hattiesburg beat West Harrison 51-36.
The girls All-Tournament Team consisted of Anslee James and Brooklyn Cuevas of Hancock, which finished the event unbeaten, as well as Miranda Parker of West Harrison, Kamiyah Pruitt of Pass Christian and Addyson Sherer of PCHS.
Ironically enough, Hancock travels to Hattiesburg to face Presbyterian Christian tonight again and the hosts Pass Christian Thursday. The Tuesday night game will be a rematch from a Hancock 56-41 win in the first round of the PCHS tourney one week prior.
On the boys side of the PCHS Round Robin affair, the host Pirates nipped Hancock 48-42 in an exciting fashion to close ou the event while PCHS beat WHHS 45-37.
The All Tournament Team for the boys featured Branden Necaise and L.J. Jaynes from PCHS, which finished 3-0 in the event, as well as Mike Washington from Hancock, Jazear Carter from West Harrison and Vance Turner from PCHS.
Also on Saturday, the Moss Point girls picked up their first win of the season with a 36-30 win over Heidelberg. Both the Lady Tigers and their male counterparts face Gautier in a Jackson County rivalry Tuesday night.
The Moss Point boys moved to 2-1 on the season overall with a 52-31 win over Heidelberg Saturday. The Tigers were coming off an exciting 53-50 win on the road in Mobile, Ala. Friday night over Davidson.
Also on Saturday, Six “Southern Six” boys basketball squads were in action on in two different one-day events and all six suffered losses.
The St. Martin boys hosted the annual Joe Barlow/Mike Perkins Invitation tip-off event on Saturday. The affair featured four teams from South Mississippi, including three from the “Southern Six”, in action against a quartet of teams from nearby Mobile County in south Alabama.
The host St. Martin team fell, as well as Biloxi and D’Iberville in the event.
Yet another trio of “Southern Six” boys squads fared no better on the road in the Jackson area Saturday as Ocean Springs, Pascagoula and Harrison Central all dropped games in “The Jump” one-day event. Ocean Springs is set to host Pascagoula in both boys and girls action Thursday night. The Greyhounds are 1-1 on the young season while the Panthers are 0-1.
