PERKINSTON — Tytiana Buckley powered Mississippi Gulf Coast to an upset of No. 7 Pearl River last Thursday, and she was named MACCC Player of the Week on Monday.
The sophomore guard from Meridian had a 27-point, 16-rebound double-double to lead Gulf Coast to a 74-66 win over its archrival. She shot 3-of-7 from the 3-point line and made all six 2-point attempts.
She had 11 points and six rebounds in a 57-54 loss at Northeast Mississippi earlier in the week.
Buckley is the third different Gulf Coast player to win MACCC Player of the Week this year. Simaru Fields won it twice, and Je’Mya Evans also won.
The award was voted on by the conference’s sports information directors. Buckley is now eligible for NJCAA weekly honors, which will be announced Wednesday.
