Mississippi Gulf Coast got back on the winning track Tuesday with a couple of big softball wins at Baton Rouge. The Bulldogs won the first game 15-1 in five inning before closing out the sweep with an 8-3 victory.
Gulf Coast (8-6) forced six errors by the Bears in the opener, racking up 10 hits. Jorja Roberson (So., Branyan/East Union) tripled and had four RBI. Irina Sanford (Fr., Lucedale/George County) had a double and two RBI.
Jett Harrell (So., Clarksdale/Lee Academy) struck out four in a four-hitter. She didn’t walk anybody.
In the second game, Harrell had two hits again and drove in two runs. Savannah Wilbanks (Fr., Southaven/DeSoto Central) had two doubles and drove in two runs. Natalie Shaw (So., Olive Branch/Marshall Academy) had three hits. Olivia Falcon (Fr., St. Amant, La./St. Amant) allowed three hits and struck out four in five innings.
Baton Rouge is now 6-8.
Gulf Coast will play in the Hinds Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Bulldogs play St. Charles and Coastal Alabama-North in Vicksburg the first day, and close out play against Kirkwood and Parkland.
