PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast ran its win streak to four Friday with a pair of run-rule victories in the JUCO Classic softball tournament in Vicksburg.
The Bulldogs won their first game 12-0 over St. Charles and the second 11-3 over Coastal Alabama-North. Both lasted just five innings.
“We swung the bats really well,” Gulf Coast coach David Kuhn said. “We played pretty good overall: pitching, hitting and defense. That’s a really good day.”
The Bulldogs were a base hit short of .500 for the day, going 24-for-50. They gave up only one earned run.
Jett Harrell (So., Clarksdale/Lee Academy) won the first game in the circle and drove in seven runs on the day. She went 3-for-5 with a triple and a home run.
“That’s ridiculous,” Kuhn said. “All of the sudden, she has 20 RBI. She killed the ball. Jett and Jorja, gosh dang. It’s insane.”
Jorja Roberson (So., Branyan/East Union) also went 3-for-5, and she had a double and a home run. Shaylynn Hoak (Fr., Vancleave/Vancleave) had four hits, and Irina Sanford (Fr., Lucedale/George County) went 3-for-4 with a triple.
Olivia Falcon (Fr., St. Amant, La./St. Amant) threw a complete game to win the second game.
The Bulldogs will play No. 9 Kirkwood at 11 a.m., followed by a game against No. 4 Parkland at 1:30 p.m. All games are being played at the Sports Force Complex.
