Region play in Class 7A and Class 3A tipped off this week across the Southern Six as Coast volleyball teams begin to make their playoff push.

Classes 6A, 5A, 4A and 1A all jump into region action Thursday and next week as teams jockey for playoff positioning over the next couple of weeks.

In Region 4-7A, Ocean Springs, Gulfport and D’Iberville all opened division play with wins.

The Lady Greyhounds improved to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in the region with a three-set sweep of St. Martin, (4-4, 0-1).

The Lady Admirals (8-3, 1-0) scored a four-set victory against Harrison Central (11-4, 0-1) to keep pace with Ocean Springs.

The Lady Warriors joined Ocean Springs and Gulfport in getting off to a 1-0 start in region play with a four-set win against Biloxi. D’Iberville is 5-2 overall.
Biloxi (7-2, 0-1) looks to bounce back on Thursday by hosting Gulfport while Harrison Central will be at home against Ocean Springs and St. Martin and D’Iberville will face off in Jackson County.
In 3A, St. Patrick opened Region 8 play with a four-set victory at West Marion. The Lady Irish (11-4, 1-0) will travel to Tylertown on Thursday to take on the winless Lady Chiefs.
OLA (11-1) will open region play at winless Perry Central.
In 1A, Resurrection (4-5) will host East Marion (10-4) as the Lady Eagles begin their quest for another region title.
Classes 4A, 5A and 6A will open region play next week after tuning up against non-division opponents.
In 6A, Hancock and George County both are playing well ahead of their match next Tuesday.
Last year’s South State finalists are a combined 15-5 this season.
George County extended its winning streak to four matches with a 3-0 sweep of East Central. The Lady Rebels will travel to Greene County on Thursday and will participate in the East Central Tournament on Saturday.
Hancock improved to 11-4 with a 3-0 sweep of Vancleave and appears on track to make another run to South State and beyond.
West Harrison improved to 4-8 with a 3-0 sweep of Gautier (6-8) and will host East Central on Thursday night as the Lady Hornets look to get on track before hosting their tournament.
Gautier will be at home against Moss Point on Thursday night. The Lady Tigers (1-8) are coming off a tough five-set loss to Pascagoula.

The Lady Panthers (3-7) will host Vancleave (4-5) as the Lady Bulldogs look to bounce back from their loss to Hancock.
Poplarville (6-5) swept Pearl River Central on Tuesday night. The Lady Blue Devils head into region play next week looking for their first win of the season.
In a rare Wednesday night contest this week, Pass High (3-9) travels to Picayune.  The Maroon Tide are 4-6 after a hard-fought five-set loss to Bay High on Tuesday night.
