ELLISVILLE — Mississippi Gulf Coast placed a pair of players on the All-MACCC Men’s Tennis team, which was announced here Thursday.
Gonzalo Cotter and Triston Hill were named to the squad, selected by the conference tennis coaches. It was announced on the first day of the NJCAA Region 23 Men’s Tennis Championship.
Cotter, a freshman from Valencia, Spain, went 8-2 while playing No. 1 singles, and he teamed up to go 8-2 at No. 1 doubles.
“He’s a gamer,” Gulf Coast coach Sam Blackburn said. “I knew that the first day I saw him; he loves to compete. Every match he’s played in, he’s competed his heart out. He gotten tougher as the year’s gone on. He’s mentally grown as a tennis player, and he’s gotten fitter. I’m really proud of him.”
Hill, a sophomore from Perkinston, went 7-1 at No. 4 singles and had an identical record at No. 2 doubles.
“He’s a team captain, and he leads by example in everything he does,” Blackburn said. “It’s hard work, his drive, his energy. He’s earned it. He’s a good tennis player and a heckuva leader.”
Gulf Coast also picked up its MACCC runner-up trophy. The Bulldogs went 9-1 in conference play.
