For the third straight year, the West Harrison Hurricanes dominated the Bay High Tigers on Friday night in Gulfport and romped to their first shutout of the 2024 season—a 55-0 homecoming victory.
The Hurricanes defeated the Tigers 28-7 in 2022 and 42-7 in 2023.
“Hats off to our faculty and staff who planned a great homecoming week,” said West Harrison coach Quincy Patrick. “Our guys had a really tough week outside of football, but they handled everything in life so well this week.
“In terms of football, our guys came out and executed the game plan. The offensive line and defensive line played with great effort.”
The Hurricanes (3-1) jumped on the board early and often. They were up 42-0 at halftime and cruised in the second half to finish the victory.
Accounting for 491 yards of total offense, West Harrison rushed for 395 and six touchdowns.
Jordan Stapleton led the Hurricanes with 203 yards rushing and receiving and scored two touchdowns. Stapleton caught a 35-yard pass for a touchdown.
A host of additional West Harrison running backs (Trey Harris, Kaiden Miller and Sean Fairley) punched out 200 yards and five touchdowns against Bay High (1-3).
Stapleton is one of the top running backs on the Mississippi Gulf Coast after having 577 yards rushing and seven touchdowns in four games.
Hurricanes quarterback Demario Davies completed four of five passes for 96 yards and a touchdown.
Wide receiver Depatrick Byrd finished with two receptions for 61 yards.
Julianna Shoemaker was named the homecoming queen and Byrd was named the king.
The Hurricanes will play at Moss Point on Sept. 27 while Bay High will host Pearl River Central.
