PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast’s Laylah Johnson put the other teams on notice in the first week of conference play, earning MACCC Player of the Week honors after a fantastic pair of games.
The freshman left back/winger from Gulfport was dominant in a 2-0 week for the Bulldogs. She had a goal and two assists in a 5-0 win over East Central, then exploded for four goals in a 6-2 victory over Southwest Mississippi.
Johnson is the second Gulf Coast player to have earned conference honors this season, joining keeper Laurel Conley. She is now eligible for the NJCAA weekly award, which will be announced Wednesday.
