PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast’s Laylah Johnson has been on a scoring rampage this season, and last week’s performance has earned her national acclaim.
The freshman left back/winger from Gulfport was a goal-scoring machine in a 2-0 week for the Bulldogs, notching five goals and two assists to win NJCAA Player of the Week.
She had a goal and two assists in a 5-0 win over East Central, then powered Gulf Coast to a 6-2 victory over Southwest Mississippi with a four-goal performance.
Johnson also scored the goal in Gulf Coast 1-1 tie at Co-Lin on Tuesday night, giving her six in her last three games.
Johnson is the first Bulldog to earn the national award this season, and the first since Skyler Steede won NJCAA Keeper of the Week in spring 2021.
