PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast got a couple of run-rule wins on Thursday on the first day of the Bulldog Classic.
Gulf Coast beat Bishop State 11-2 and 10-1, with both games ending in five innings.
The Bulldogs scored four times in the first inning of the day, with AB Parrish (Fr., Corinth/Alcorn Central) delivering a three-run double. They got seven more in the third, with Jett Harrell (So., Clarksdale/Lee Academy) driving in a run with a double. Harrell finished with two hits.
Olivia Falcon (Fr., St. Amant, La./St. Amant) scattered four hits and allowed just one earned run for the win.
Kylee Necaise (So., Gulfport/West Harrison) allowed five hits in the second game, striking out two for the win.
Natalie Shaw (So., Olive Branch/Marshall Academy) had an RBI single in the third to make it 4-1, and Gulf Coast scored six in the fourth. Jorja Roberson (So., Branyan/East Union) had a two-run single, and Shaw got another RBI single. Abi Williams (So., Columbia/Columbia Academy) had a pinch-hit single to score the final run.
The weather forecast is pushing Gulf Coast’s next games in the Bulldog Classic back to Saturday. MGCCC will play Central Alabama in a 3 p.m. doubleheader. Baton Rouge and Central Alabama will play two games Friday starting at 4 p.m., and Bishop State opens Saturday action against BRCC at 10 a.m. The Wildcats and Bears will play two, as well.
