BILOXI — Administrators at St. Patrick Catholic High School announced recently that Nick Mumme has been hired to lead the girls basketball program as the head coach for the 2023-24 School Year.
Coach Mumme comes from Winona Christian School, where he currently serves as the Athletic Director and Head Boys and Girls Basketball Coach. Over the course of the last three seasons, his combined record is 143-49, with his girls finishing this past season with a record of 35-5, and his boys finishing 30-5.
Both varsity squads competed for the 4A State Championship in 2023. Before his time at Winona Christian, Coach Mumme served as coach at Carroll Academy, where his varsity boys squad competed for the 3A State Championship in 2020. Coach Mumme graduated from Mississippi State University, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Interdisciplinary Studies.
“The hiring of Coach Mumme shows our further commitment to continuing to grow and improve our Women’s Basketball program,” Interim Principal Trey Bailey said. “Coach has demonstrated in his young career that he is truly one of the up-and-coming coaches within the state. His Catholic values and coaching philosophy will fit in tremendously with the mission of St. Patrick Catholic High School. I look forward to watching him grow our student-athletes as Scholars, Disciples, and Champions.”
“I am excited to join the St. Patrick family and build a program that this school and community takes pride in,” said Mumme. “I can’t wait to get on campus and get to work!”
Mumme is also a graduate of Carroll Academy. The Carrollton native arrived at Winona Christian for his basketball head coaching position after working at Carroll Academy from 2016 to 2020 as head coach for junior varsity girls’ basketball and assistant coach for girls’ and boys’ basketball. He also taught math at the Carroll Academy middle school.
Mumme will lead the St. Patrick girls into a new world in the Mississippi High School Activities Association as the organization will expand to a seven classification system for the first time in the history of the MHSAA. St. Patrick will remain in Class 3A, and also stay in Region 8-3A, where the boys will compete against other league foes Perry Central, West Marion, St. Stanislaus, and Tylertown in all sports and the girls will also face off with league foes Perry Central, West Marion, Tylertown and Our Lady Academy in their region as well. Four teams will qualify from each region for the Class 3A state playoffs.
Mumme replaces Dave Glaunce at the helm of the Lady Irish. St. Patrick made it to the second round of the Class 3A South State playoffs last season.
