No. 13 Jones handed No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast its first MACCC men’s tennis loss of the season Tuesday, winning 6-3 in Ellisville.
The Bulldogs lost all three doubles courts and tried to mount a comeback in singles. Vicente Faria (Fr., Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundária de Fonseca Benevides) won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2, and Duarte Mestre (Fr., Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundária Sebastiao e Silva) won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3.
Hiram Havard (So., Vancleave/Vancleave) picked up the last Bulldogs point at No. 5 singles. He won 4-6, 6-4, 10-5.
Gulf Coast is now 4-2, 4-1 MACCC.
Jones is 8-0, 4-0.
Gulf Coast is back in action Tuesday, March 5, when Hinds visits Perkinston. First serves are set for 2 p.m. at the MGCCC Tennis Complex.
