PERKINSTON — No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast soared past No. 22 Hinds on Thursday, winning 8-1 in MACCC women’s tennis action.
The Bulldogs (6-1, 5-1 MACCC) rebounded from their first conference loss in style. They swept three doubles courts to set the stage for the win.
Lauren Sullivan (Fr., Laurel/Laurel Christian) and Mikenzy Dubrow (Fr., Biloxi/Biloxi) won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 doubles tandem of Danique Vermue (Fr., ‘s-Heerenhoek, Netherlands/Scheldemond College) and Angela Moreno (So., Sevilla, Spain/IES V Centenario) matche the No. 2 duo of Valeria Callejo (Madrid, Spain/I.E.S. Ortega y Gasset) and Kendall Burn (So., Wiggins/Stone) by only dropping three games.
Sullivan and Niyah Strickland (So., Pachuta/Quitman) won at No. 5 and 6 singles 6-0, 6-0.
Gulf Coast travels to Texas this weekend for a big road trip, playing four teams in three days. The Bulldogs start against No. 1 Cowley County on Sunday, and also play No. 3 Tyler and No. 7 Collin County.
