No. 14 Mississippi Gulf Coast lost its six matches in the main draw Tuesday on the second day of the NJCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championship in Plano, Texas.
The Bulldogs will resume play in the consolation draw Wednesday. Jeremiah Layton (Fr., Brookhaven/Brookhaven) is alive in No. 6 singles, and Triston Hill (So., Perkinston/Stone) and Duarte Mestre (Fr., Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundária Sebastiao e Silva) will play in No. 2 doubles. John Thomas Frank (So., Eupora/Eupora) and Hiram Havard (So., Vancleave/Vancleave) will get going in No. 3 doubles.
Vicente Faria (Fr., Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundária de Fonseca Benevides) nearly got a big win in No. 2 singles. He lost 7-5, 7-5 to Weatherford’s Alexis Leguizamon, who had upset the six-seed on the opening day.
The tournament is being played at Collin College. It will conclude on Friday.
