POPLARVILLE, Miss. — After putting the No. 2 MACCC Champion Pearl River baseball team on his back against then-No. 12 Northwest, Caleb Dyess (Carriere; Pearl River Central) has been named the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Dyess is the fourth Wildcat pitcher to be named the Conference’s Pitcher of the Week. Thomas Crabtree (Collierville, Tenn.) has won twice, while JP Robertson (Madison; Germantown) and JT Schnoor (Pascagoula; Resurrection) have won it once.
With the Wildcats searching for one victory to secure the MACCC Championship, Dyess turned in an incredible outing against the Rangers. The freshman threw seven innings of one-run baseball, scattering six hits. He did not walk any batters in the contest and struck out six en route to a 7-1 victory.
Dyess has been incredible for the Wildcats this season. He has appeared in 14 games and has an 8-1 record with one save on the mound. He has pitched his way to a 2.14 ERA across 59 innings, striking out 54 batters against 29 walks. He has also excelled at the plate when called upon, going 8-for-26 with three homers, six RBIs and one walk.
