No. 20 Mississippi Gulf Coast twice fought back from deficits but suffered a second straight loss on a late goal Friday, dropping its women’s soccer match at Itawamba 3-2.
The Indians (8-1-1, 3-1-1 MACCC) scored in the 88th minute. They got the winner off a free kick into the box.
Gulf Coast (5-2-1, 2-2-1) didn’t have enough time to rally for another tying goal.
ICC scored in the 19th minute, but Laylah Johnson (Fr., Gulfport/Gulfport) equalized 14 minutes later. It was her 10th goal of the season.
The Indians went back in front less than a minute into the second half. Hailey Moore (Fr., Biloxi/Biloxi) knotted it back up in the 53rd minute, pouncing off her own rebound to make it 2-2.
Gulf Coast takes another road trip on Tuesday, heading to Meridian. Kickoff against the Eagles is scheduled for 5 p.m.
