POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The No. 3 Pearl River baseball team is headed back to the Coast in April.
The Wildcats are excited to announce they have finalized an agreement with the Biloxi Shuckers to face off in an exhibition for the second straight season.
The game is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. April 3 at MGM Park in Biloxi.
“We are very thankful and excited to return to MGM Park,” Pearl River baseball coach Michael Avalon said. “Last year’s exhibition was an unbelievable experience for not only our players, but our entire fanbase. The chance to compete against professional players is an experience our guys will remember forever.”
When the Wildcats and Shuckers faced off last season, it marked the first time South Mississippi’s Double-A team had played a JUCO program.
The Milwaukee Brewers’ affiliate won the exhibition, but it was an unforgettable experience for the Wildcat players, families and fans who packed MGM Park.
The exhibition is a win-win as it provides the Wildcats with an unforgettable experience while allowing the host Shuckers one last tune-up before their season opener days later.
“It was such a positive all-around experience working with Pearl River for last year’s exhibition game,” Shuckers General Manager Hunter Reed said. “We’re looking forward to having their outstanding baseball program and fans join us for another great night and give Shuckers fans their very first look at our 2024 team in action.”
ABOUT THE SHUCKERS
The Shuckers are fresh off of another excellent season in the Southern League. A franchise record four Shuckers were named to the SL’s All-Star Team: Tyler Black, Jackson Chourio, Jeferson Quero and Carlos Rodriguez; all three faced the Wildcats in the 2023 exhibition. Chourio, who was the consensus No. 2 prospect in all of baseball, helped lead the Shuckers to a 74-win season.
