POPLARVILLE, Miss. — It was an unreal week at the plate for No. 4 Pearl River’s Marshall Phillips (Hattiesburg; Sumrall), earning him the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference Player of the Week award.
Phillips’ selection makes eight for Pearl River on the season, combining Pitcher and Player of the Week awards. PRCC has now taken home the last three Player of the Week selections.
In a perfect 4-0 week for the Wildcats, Phillips had a .357 batting average, a .400 on-base percentage and a .857 slugging percentage, collecting an unreal 10 RBIs along the way. He also chipped in six runs scored, two homers, one double and two stolen bases. He was clutch twice in Pearl River’s doubleheader against East Mississippi, hitting go-ahead home runs in each to lead the Wildcats to a sweep.
Phillips has put together an impressive sophomore campaign. Featuring in 43 games, Phillips currently holds a .308 batting average with 42 RBIs, 40 runs scored, 12 doubles, seven homers and two triples. He has walked 24 times and stolen 10 bases on the year. He’s been solid in the field for the Wildcats, holding a .958 fielding percentage with three outfield assists.
