The Pascagoula girls and boys basketball teams improved to 2-0 in Region 4-6A play on Tuesday night with double-figure wins against George County at Sellers Gymnasium in Lucedale.
The Lady Panthers outscored the Lady Rebels 18-5 in the second quarter to overcome a sluggish start and cruise to a 50-20 victory.
The Panthers got out of the gates quickly, outscoring the Rebels 24-10, and kept George County at bay, winning 59-48.
The girls contest got off to a slow start with the Lady Panthers leading 8-5, but Pascagoula got on track in the second quarter.
Free throws were the key for Pascagoula as the team hit 10-of-14 to build a 26-10 lead at halftime.
The lead grew in the third quarter as sophomore Massyah Thomas scored 8 of her team-high 13 points in the quarter and Pascagoula led 38-15 heading into the fourth quarter.
A couple of 3-pointers by senior Khyliyah Moore keyed the Lady Panthers in the quarter as she finished the game with 11 points and Pascagoula cruised to the 30-point victory.
Turnovers plagued the Lady Rebels and cold shooting limited them to just 5 points in each quarter. DeKari McNair led the team with 9 points while Delanie McNair chipped in 5.
The Lady Rebels fell to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in the region and head to the Richton Rotary Tournament this weekend.
All 10 Lady Panthers contributed points led by Thomas and Moore in double figures.
Pascagoula improved to 4-4 overall and will travel to Hancock on Friday to face the undefeated Lady Hawks.

In the boys contest, George County jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but Pascagoula ended the first quarter on a 24-6 run and led 24-10.

George County outscored Pascagoula 38-35 the rest of the way, but the early deficit was too much to overcome as the Panthers led by double figures the rest of the game.

Blake Nettles led the Panthers in first-half scoring with 10 points and finished the game with 13 while Tylon Wilson scored 8 of his team-high 17 in the first quarter.

Tomareo Johnson joined Nettles and Wilson in double figures, scoring 11 points as the Panthers improved to 8-2 overall.

Sophomore Jeremiah Bolton scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Rebels while LB Bradley joined him in double figures with 15.

Kaison Fairley added 9 as the Rebels fell to 4-5 overall and 0-2 in the region.

The Rebels return to region play on Monday night, hosting West Harrison after this weekend’s Richton Tournament.

The Panthers, whose only two losses have come to Harrison Central and Starkville by a combined 5 points, will play at Hancock on Friday before facing Tupelo on Dec. 21.
