POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The second round of postseason awards were rolled out on Friday, and the Pearl River baseball team took home five Region 23 awards.
Bryce Fowler (Madison; Germantown), Jeff Ince (Brandon; Jackson Prep) and Hollis Porter (Hurley; East Central) were named All-Region 23. Ince and Porter also took home the Region 23 Gold Glove award at their respective positions.
BRYCE FOWLER
Fowler was an unbelievable player at the top of the lineup in his lone season in the maroon and gold. His .419 batting average was the highest on the team in 2024, and his 88 hits were the second most in a single season in program history, trailing Tate Parker’s 90 in 2022.
Fowler added 14 doubles, 11 homers and four triples. He drove in 52 runs, walked 24 times, and swiped 24 bags. He also had a .500 on-base percentage and a .681 slugging percentage.
He has already been named First Team All-MACCC.
“I am super proud of Bryce and this accomplishment,” head coach Michael Avalon said. “When Bryce went, we went. It was a remarkable season, and his teammates felt his impact every day. Bryce set the tone for each game and was an electric player for us at the top of the lineup. I enjoyed watching him mature as a player and a leader.”
JEFF INCE
The switch-hitting Ince was a tough out at the plate from start to finish on the season. He ended the year with a .411 batting average, a .514 on-base percentage and a .632 slugging percentage. His .411 batting average was second on the team. He scored a single-season record 82 runs scored, drove in 43 runs and tallied 78 hits. He hit 12 doubles, eight homers and three triples. Ince stole 23 bases, which was second on the team.
Ince earned the Gold Glove award by converting 162 of 165 total chances in the field during the season. He recorded 108 assists, 54 putouts and just three errors. He also was part of a stellar 21 double plays.
Ince was previously named First Team All-MACCC.
“Jeff is one of the few players that I have coached over the years that is a complete player,” Avalon said. “He is a young man who did everything asked of him on the field. He defended, hit for average, hit for power, scored runs, drove in runs, stole bases and most importantly, he showed up every day with toughness and set the example for his teammates.”
HOLLIS PORTER
The MACCC Player of the Year and First Team All-MACCC selection can add two more awards to his collection. Porter earned an All-Region 23 selection after a 2024 campaign that saw him set a single-season Pearl River record with 20 home runs. He also bashed 21 doubles and four triples. His 73 RBIs on the year trail only Tate Parker, who tallied 76 in 2022. He also drew 31 walks and racked up 83 hits.
Defensively, Porter was just as electric, making it look effortless at first base all season long. He converted 383 of his 388 total chances. He made just five errors and was part of 29 double plays.
“Statistically, Hollis sits at the top of several categories for a season in the history of Pearl River,” Avalon said. “If you know the tradition and all the special players that have come through Pearl River, then you understand how amazing this season has been. Maybe more impressive was watching the work this young man put in every day during the season to create and maintain the success.”
