MERIDIAN, Miss. — The Pearl River rodeo team had to shake off the rust in its first event of the spring season at East Mississippi. The men’s team earned 10th place, and the women did not place.
The Wildcats now prepare for their home rodeo Thursday-Saturday at the Pearl River County Fairgrounds. Each night begins at 7 p.m.
EMCC RESULTS
In steer wrestling, Brodie Maddox (Wetumpka, Ala.; Elmore) registered a first-round time of 10.6 before taking it up a notch in the second round with a 4.9. He finished fourth in average with a mark of 15.5 and earned 85 points. Jake White (Albany, La.; Holden School) had a fantastic showing in his first round of steer wrestling, earning fourth place with a 5.9. He did not earn a time in the second round, but he was awarded 30 points for his first round.
Pearl River had two athletes make the short go round in team roping. Blake Lyons (Ethel, La.; Silliman Institute) teamed up with West Alabama’s Clarke Gordon and finished in second place after times of nine and six, respectively. They were awarded 110 points for the showing. Trenton Davis (Poplarville) teamed up with Three Rivers College’s Preston Fox. The duo was sitting pretty after the first round after a run of 6.6 in the first round. Unfortunately, they were unable to register a time in the second run. The pair still earned 60 points for the round one showing.
Bryson Crawford (Labelle, Fla.) made the short go round in calf roping but wasn’t awarded any points after an average of 26.6.
PEARL RIVER RODEO
Pearl River hosts its annual rodeo Thursday-Saturday at the Pearl River County Fairgrounds. Each night of the three-day event begins at 7 p.m. and features some of the best college competition in the country. Admission is $10. Kids 10 and under get in free. College faculty, staff and students are admitted for free.
The event will feature bareback riding, tie-down roping, breakaway roping, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing, goat tying, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, and more. Rodeo clown Kyle Lamon will be back to entertain the crowd each night.
