POPLARVILLE, Miss. — No. 5 Pearl River baseball’s Hollis Porter (Hurley; East Central) has been a force at the plate all year, and that was no different last week as he slugged his way to a National Junior College Athletic Association Player of the Week selection. The association announced the award on Wednesday.
He was named MACCC Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Porter is the first Wildcat to be named NJCAA Player of the Week during the 2023-24 school year.
Porter had quite the week for the Wildcats, hitting .692 with a .778 on-base percentage and a 1.538 slugging percentage. He smashed three homers and two doubles across the week, driving in seven RBIs and scoring nine runs. He also drew five walks across the 4-0 week.
The Mississippi State transfer has been unreal all year long. Through 37 games, he has a .425 batting average, .510 on-base percentage and .929 slugging percentage. He has crushed an NJCAA-leading 15 home runs and tacked on a team-high 15 doubles, which rank fourth nationally. His 46 RBIs are third in the country. He’s also drawn 21 walks. Of his 54 hits on the year, 32 of them are for extra bases.
Porter is just four home runs shy of tying the single-season record of 19, which is held by former NJCAA Player of the Year Tate Parker (Gulfport; West Harrison) and Meaux Landry (Ponchatoula, La.)
