POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The Pearl River rodeo team put together a great rodeo at Northwest over the weekend as the men’s team finished sixth with 170 points, and the women’s team grabbed second with 270 points.

Not only did the women’s team finish in second place on the weekend, but they also moved into second place on the season to secure the Ozark Region Reserve Champion title, securing a spot in the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo. June 9-15.

“We’ve got a really good team that has a chance to go out there and place,” head coach Frank Graves said. “We did this with two freshmen on the team. It’s been a long year, but they’ve been good all year long. We were the only community college that finished in the top four, so it was a pretty impressive feat.”

Additionally, Kate Eiland (Kentwood, La.) was named the All-Around Champion for the Ozark Region, tied for first in breakaway roping and was third in goat tying.

Blake Lyons (Ethel, La.) earned a spot at the CNFR in team roping.

WEEKEND RESULTS
Breakaway roping was a good event for the Wildcats on the weekend. Erin McLaughlin (Bunnell, Fla.; Matanzas) finished third in breakaway roping. She finished with a 4.2 in the first round and a 2.9 in the championship round to earn 100 points.

Juliana Jennings (Mendenhall; Simpson County Academy) had a time of 3.6 seconds in the opening round and 3.8 in the championship round to finish fourth. She collected 65 points.

Karrigan Cagley (Kentwood, La.) and Sydney Pool (Robertsdale, Ala.) tied for fifth in the event — both finishing with a time of 2.8 seconds in the opening round. Unfortunately, they couldn’t register a time in the short-go round.

Molli Rae Kinchen (Tickfaw, La.) registered a time of 3.4 seconds in the first round but couldn’t earn a time in the championship round.

In goat tying, Eiland tied for fourth place. She was sitting in first place after the opening round with a time of 6.1 seconds. She followed up with a 9.1 second round in the championship round to finish with a total time of 15.2. She earned 60 points for the event.

Eiland teamed up with Bryson Crawford (LaBelle, Fla.) in team roping, advancing to the championship round after a 13.9-second first round. The duo couldn’t pick up a time in the championship round.

Trenton Davis (Poplarville) and Three Rivers College’s Preston Fox earned a position in the short-go with an 11.1-second first round. They couldn’t pick up a time in round two.

Lyons and West Alabama’s Clarke Gordon took third place in the first round with a time of 6.9 seconds and followed up with a 6.5 in the championship round for a first-place finish — combining for a time of 13.4 seconds and 160 points.

Trevor Roberts (Beaumont) and Jacob Perry (Pelahatchie) were sitting in second after the opening round with a time of 6.2 seconds but couldn’t register a time in the championship round.

Davis advanced to the championship round in calf roping with a time of 12.9 seconds. He followed it up with a time of 11.6 seconds. Cayden Roland (Fayetteville, Ala.) also advanced to the championship round with a time of 13.1 in the opening round. He turned in a 14-second ride in the short go.
