POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The Pearl River rodeo team put together a great rodeo at Northwest over the weekend as the men’s team finished sixth with 170 points, and the women’s team grabbed second with 270 points.
Not only did the women’s team finish in second place on the weekend, but they also moved into second place on the season to secure the Ozark Region Reserve Champion title, securing a spot in the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo. June 9-15.
“We’ve got a really good team that has a chance to go out there and place,” head coach Frank Graves said. “We did this with two freshmen on the team. It’s been a long year, but they’ve been good all year long. We were the only community college that finished in the top four, so it was a pretty impressive feat.”
Additionally, Kate Eiland (Kentwood, La.) was named the All-Around Champion for the Ozark Region, tied for first in breakaway roping and was third in goat tying.
Blake Lyons (Ethel, La.) earned a spot at the CNFR in team roping.
