POPLARVILLE, Miss. — It was an impressive week on the diamond for Pearl River’s Peyton Hoffmayer (Ocean Springs) and Caston Thompson (Jayess; Brookhaven Academy), and the duo have been named Wildcats of the Week for their efforts.
PEYTON HOFFMAYER
Hoffmayer was nearly impossible to get out in a 3-1 week for the Pearl River softball team. She finished the four-game stretch with a .643 batting average, .643 on-base percentage and a 1.571 slugging percentage. She collected three homers, two doubles and one triple while driving in nine runs and scoring six. Hoffmayer also made her first pitching appearance of her collegiate career, throwing two innings and allowing just one walk. She struck out one.
The dual-sport athlete has been a reliable bat for the Wildcats all season. In 41 games, Hoffmayer is hitting .403 with nine homers, eight doubles and two triples. She has driven in 44 runs and scored 31.
CASTON THOMPSON
Thompson put together one of the most impressive weeks of the year for Pearl River baseball in sweeps of Gulf Coast and Coahoma. He wrapped up the week with an unreal .727 batting average, .750 on-base percentage and 1.455 slugging percentage. He bashed two homers and two doubles, driving in 10 runs. He also scored four runs and walked once.
The left-handed hitter has played in 27 games for the Wildcats this season and currently holds a .417 batting average, .525 on-base percentage and .833 slugging percentage. He has tallied seven doubles, six homers, 28 RBIs, 20 runs and 15 walks throughout the year.

Pearl River has a pair of big-time doubleheaders against East Central on Wednesday.
