Different day, same results.
That was precisely the case for both Biloxi and Pass Christian on Friday in prep baseball action as both the Indians and Pirates carved out another win in the annual battle at The Beach affair at MGM Stadium.
The Indians jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead, and then Biloxi had to fight valiantly to keep D’Iberville at bay before earning a 9-7 win.
Meanwhile, Pass Christian began the proceedings Friday at the home of the Biloxi Shuckers with a 5-2 win over Etowah (Ala.).
Biloxi remained unbeaten at 11-0 on the season with the win over the Warriors, while the Pirates are off to a solid start as well at 8-3 overall.
The Indians are still the only squad in the “Southern Six” without a loss this season, thanks to the exciting win over D’Iberville. Biloxi jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead after two innings against the Warriors and actually led 7-0 after the top of the third stanza.
Judson Byars enjoyed a huge night at the plate in the win for the Indians, as he collected three hits (including a double) and drove in a game-high five runs. Ian Henry also had three hits and a double for BHS, while Bryson Pisarich chipped in a pair of hits and drove in a run as well. Robbie Hokamp and Logan Fontenelle each also drove in a run apiece in the win for the Indians, and Aiden Harrison also had a double.
Fontenelle picked up the pitching win with four frames of work striking out five and allowing a pair of hits. Cameron Holt was called upon to get the save after the Warriors rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the deficit to the final margin.
There were no stats available for D’Iberville.
Biloxi proved to be a rude host to that same Etowah squad Thursday night in opening day action at the Battle of the Beach at the Biloxi High Sports Complex with a 4-3 win over the Blue Devils.
Meanwhile, in the win over Etowah Friday at MGM, Pass Christian got a big pitching performance from Brendan Necaise as he struck out 9 to pick up the win. He got some solid support at the plate from Southern Miss signee Peyton Lacey, who collected a pair of hits and drove in a game-high three runs. Evan Anderson picked up the save.
Pass Christian began play in the Battle at the Beach on Thursday also at the Biloxi Sports Complex with a 4-3 win over Denham Springs (La.).
Pass Christian returns home to host a pair of games in BATB play on Saturday as West Marion meets Bay High at 11 a.m., and then faces the host Pirates at 1:30 as well.
Also on Friday night in Battle at the Beach Action in Gulfport, visiting Daphne (Ala.) knocked off the home-standing Admirals 8-3.
On Saturday, at Pascagoula High, the host Panthers meet Pelahatchie High at 3:30 p.m. That contest follows a meeting between the defending Class 1A state champion Resurrection and Pelahatchie at 1 p.m.
In St. Martin on Saturday, BATB action has Daphne (Ala.) facing Denham Springs at 11 a.m., followed by the host SMHS Yellow Jackets facing Daphne at 1:30.
Battle at the Beach will take the day off on Sunday before returning with action at eight different venues on Monday.
