Resurrection is the defending Class 1A state baseball champion, after winning the big trophy for the first time in school history last season.
But the Eagles have slowly and steadily added yet another historic chapter to its successful program also, one that has been six years in the making.
Resurrection has won a school-record 34 straight Region 8-1A games after sweeping a doubleheader from visiting Salem Tuesday night. The streak is currently the longest by any prep baseball team in any classification in the state of Mississippi.
The last time RCS lost a region game was April 7, 2017 on the road at Stringer. At the time of that loss, the Eagles were 5-0 in league play meaning that Resurrection has won 39 out of its past 40 Region 8-1A contests on the baseball diamond.
To take it one step further, it’s been almost seven years, April 8, 2016, since the Eagles lost a home region game. “It’s pretty crazy when you think about it,” former RCS head coach Johnny Olsen, who retired after guiding the Eagles to the state crown last year and after seven seasons at the helm of the Eagles, said. “It’s a credit to all of the players and coaches over that span that bought into what we were trying to build and maintain as a program.”

The Eagles did nothing to ruffle their region feathers on Tuesday, celebrating Senior Night by extending their historic win streak to 34 straight wins taking the twin bill from Salem under interim head coach Aron Frederic 15-3 and 13-1 to move to 4-0 in league play.
In the opener, the Eagles eased ahead 4-0 after two innings before lowering the boom on Salem in the third frame by plating 10 more runs to take a commanding two-touchdown advantage at 14-0 heading into the fourth inning.
Walker Frederic maintained his hot streak at the plate for RCS, as he collected a pair of hits including yet another home run and he alone dove in more runs (four) than the entire Wildcats team. Luke Schnoor chipped in a two-run home run as well for the Eagles, while Cole Tingle drove in two runs with a pair of hits including a double. Max Askew added two hits to the winning effort, while Nicholas Watts had a double.
Jesus San Miguel picked up the win in the four-inning affair.

It was more of the same from the Eagles in the nightcap, as RCS registered five runs in the first frame, added a run in the second and then broke it open once again in the third with six more runs to take a 12-0 lead.
A run by each team in each half of the inning brought the second game to a merciful close just as the first had ended.
Watts cracked a three-run homer run while Frederic slapped a two-run homer and Tingle added two hits including a round-tripper himself to the winning effort. Askew belted a three-run double, while Levi Foshee added a run-scoring double also. Jesus San Miguel also drove in a run for RCS.
Foshee picked up the win with three frames of work. Up next for RCS is a two game region series with Richton which begins Tuesday in Richton.
