St. Stanislaus took the opener of a big two-game series in the “Southern Six” Tuesday night beating visiting St. Patrick 12-2.
The win in the Region 8-3A match-up moves the Rock-a-Chaws to an impressive 6-1 in league play, and SSC remains solidly in the second spot in the region race one game behind league-leading West Marion which moved to 7-0 with a 22-4 win over Jefferson Davis County Tuesday night.
St. Patrick drops to 2-5 in the region and slips into fourth place behind third-place Seminary which stands 4-3 after a 10-0 win over Perry Central Tuesday night. St. Patrick is trying to hold off both JDC and PCHS, both of whom are 1-6, for the fourth and final playoff berth in Region 8-3A.
In Bay St. Louis Tuesday night, Chesley Rhods smashed a three-run home run and Seth Farni also belted a home run among his two hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Rocks. St. Stanislaus jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, and wasted no time in extending that advantage to 8-1 with five more runs in the second stanza to take complete command of the contest.
Hugh Le Master tallied a big three-run double for SSC in the win, while Wiley Mosey added two hits to the winning effort and both Kyle Stegall and Tate Murphy each drove in a run for the Rocks.
Hill Gainey picked up the win with the five-inning complete-game effort.

Hayden Hall had a double for SPHS and Jacob Alexander drove in a run for the Fighting Irish. Otis Brooks took the loss.
The same two teams met again Wednesday night this time at St. Patrick.
In other prep baseball action in the “Southern Six” Tuesday night, in Class 4A play Poplarville fell to Purvis 8-3 to drop to 3-4 in Region 7-4A action.
The Tornadoes sit atop the league race along with Sumrall each with 6-1 marks. Poplarville and Columbia both are tied at 3-4 an hold down the third and fourth spots in the standings. Columbia fell to Sumrall 16-1 Tuesday night.
Poplarville and Columbia are clinging to the final two playoff slots in the region. The Hornets and the Wildcats split a pair of league games two weeks ago, with both teams winning at home Poplarville 11-2 and Columbia winning 6-5 so PHS has the tie-breaker because of run differential if the two teams end up in a tie in the region race.

Many local prep baseball schedules have been scrambled this week due to several factors, one, of course, being the upcoming Easter holiday. But also inclement weather is expected later in the week which has caused havoc with the rescheduling of many contests usually slated for Friday and Saturday.
