Despite being a playoff participant for about half of the past 11 seasons, including last year, the football team at Biloxi High School hasn’t won a postseason game in 12 years.
Now,as the landscape changes across the state dues to expansion by the Mississippi High School Activities Association, the Indians hope to snap that streak as they tomahawk chop their way into a new classification.
Beginning with the current school year, the MHSAA has expanded to seven classes for the first time in the history of the organization. And with such expansion, Biloxi has moved up to the new Class 7A level after spending 12 seasons in Class 6A.
Also, the Indians will join the newly named Region 4-7A, and although the region is new five familiar foes are joining BHS to comprise the loop as Ocean Springs, Gulfport, D’Iberville, St. Martin and Harrison Central all move up from the same region in 6A as does the Indians to form the new league.
Biloxi qualified for the South State playoffs in each of the 2012, 2016, 2019, 2020 and 2022 seasons. However, the Indians carry a five-game opening-round playoff losing streak into the current campaign. Biloxi’s last playoff win came in 2011, a 31-6 thumping of visiting Hattiesburg to open the Class 6A South State playoffs.
Biloxi finished 7-3 overall last season, and its 5-2 mark in the region race placed the Indians in the third spot in the league standings. Biloxi’s season ended on the road against Oak Grove 28-7 to open the playoffs.
The Indians kick off year six under the leadership of head coach Katlan French on Friday, Aug. 25th, as Stone comes calling to The Biloxi Sports Complex for the “Shrimp Bowl”.
