Region Wrap-Up: Latest Standings And This Week’s Schedules Across The Southern Six

High school football teams are positioning themselves for playoff berths, with key region games on tap in the Southern Six this week.

Who’s leading Region 4-7A?
In 4-7A, co-leaders Ocean Springs and Gulfport are still unbeaten in the region.

The Admirals will host St. Martin while the Greyhounds will travel to Biloxi. The Indians are just a game back in the standings and the Yellow Jackets are looking for their first region victory.

Rivals Harrison Central and D’Iberville will meet along Back Bay with the Warriors seeking their first win in the region and the Red Rebels are looking to bounce back from a lopsided loss.

Tall task in Region 3-6A
In 3-6A, Pearl River Central is coming off its first region loss and has a tall task this week when the Blue Devils travel to unbeaten Hattiesburg, a region co-leader.

Region co-leader West Jones will entertain Forest Hill and Terry has a bye.

Big numbers in Region 4-6A
In 4-6A, region co-leaders Picayune and George County put up big numbers in region wins last week.

The Maroon Tide rolled up 69 points in their win over West Harrison while the Rebels hung 50 in a win over Hancock. There was very little defense in either game, however, as Picayune allowed 50 points to the Hurricanes and George County gave up 41 to the Hawks.

The Tide will host Long Beach on Friday while the Rebels travel to West Harrison. Pascagoula, just a game behind the Tide and the Rebels, play in Kiln to face Hancock.

A rivalry game in Region 4-5A
In 4-5A, Gautier took the top spot as the only unbeaten in the region after blowing out Wayne County last week.

The 6-1 Gators travel to play Jackson County rival East Central, winless in the region and in the midst of a three-game losing streak.

A pack of 1-1 teams will square off with Laurel at Vancleave and Stone at Wayne County.

Streaks in Region 8-4A
Region co-leader Poplarville (2-0 in 8-4A) aims to win its fourth straight game when the Hornets travel to Bay St. Louis to take on Bay High.

Meanwhile, Greene County, also 2-0 in 8-4A, hosts winless Moss Point in Leakesville. The 6-1 Wildcats are riding a five-game win streak while the Tigers stand at 0-8 on the year.

Pass Christian, which beat Moss Point last week, has a bye Friday.

In the mix in Region 8-3A
In 8-3A, St. Stanislaus blew out winless St. Patrick last week and the Rock-A-Chaws are right in the mix of the region race.

St. Stanislaus travels to New Augusta on Friday to face Perry Central and St. Patrick will host Tylertown in search of its first win.

In 8-1A, Resurrection Catholic suffered their second region loss last week, falling to East Marion. The Eagles will try to get back on track Friday when they host Sacred Heart.
