High school baseball teams got rolling in region action this past week in the Southern Six. Here is a recap:
REGION 4-7A
Biloxi vs. Ocean Springs
The Greyhounds took control of the region in the opening 4-7A series of the season, sweeping the Indians in the best-of-3.
Ocean Springs took the first game 4-1 in Biloxi and then won 3-0 at home Friday before following it up with a 6-4 victory at Biloxi on Saturday.
D’Iberville vs. Gulfport
The Admirals swept the opening 4-7A series against the Warriors.
Gulfport took the first game 9-0 on Tuesday at home before winning 8-1 Friday at D’Iberville and 10-0 Saturday in Gulfport.
Harrison Central vs. St. Martin
The Yellow Jackets took Game 1 of the best-of-3 series 8-3 in Lyman on Tuesday, but the Red Rebels won the second game 6-4 Friday to even the series and then won the series Saturday with a 14-4 victory.
In the region this week
Ocean Springs (7-6, 3-0) will begin a three-game series Tuesday at St. Martin (5-10, 1-2).
Biloxi (8-7, 0-3) will host Gulfport (10-5, 3-0) on Tuesday in Game 1 of a three-game series.
D’Iberville (4-9, 0-3) will host rival Harrison Central (7-9, 2-1) on Tuesday in the first game of a three-game series.
REGION 3-6A
Pearl River Central vs. Jim Hill
The Blue Devils continued their hot start, sweeping a three-game series against Jim Hill.
PRC won the opener 8-7 in Jackson, took the second game 10-0 in Carriere and completed the sweep with a 15-0 home victory.
The Blue Devils are riding a nine-game winning streak.
PRC (14-2, 3-0) will begin a three-game series Tuesday with a doubleheader in Carriere against Terry before playing at Terry on Thursday.
REGION 4-6A
George County vs. West Harrison
The Rebels took two of three 4-6A games against the Hurricanes.
George County won the opener 7-0 at West Harrison and then won 2-1 Friday in Lucedale before falling 4-3 Saturday in the rubber game at West Harrison.
Hancock vs. Long Beach
The Hawks swept the Bearcats, winning 7-1, 11-1, and 7-5 in the 4-6A opening series for both teams.
Pascagoula vs. Picayune
The Maroon Tide swept the Panthers, winning 11-1, 3-0, and 11-2.
In the region this week
Hancock (8-6, 3-0) will face Pascagoula (6-8, 0-3) in Kiln in the first game of a three-game series.
George County (11-2, 2-1) will host Long Beach (0-12, 0-3) on Tuesday in Game 1 of a three-game series.
Picayune (9-5, 3-0) will play at West Harrison (4-10, 1-2) on Tuesday in the opener of a three-game series.
REGION 4-5A
East Central vs. Vancleave
The Bulldogs took two of three from the rival Hornets in the opening 4-5A series for both teams.
East Central won the first game 7-6 at Vancleave, but the Bulldogs bounced back to take Games 2 and 3 with 9-4 and 13-5 victories, respectively.
Gautier vs. Laurel
The Gators took two games against the Tornadoes, winning the opener 10-0 and the second game 21-3.
Stone High vs. Wayne County
The Tomcats swept their three-game series against the War Eagles, winning 15-5 in the opener and 6-5 in both Games 2 and 3.
In the region this week
East Central (8-7, 1-2) will play a three-game series against Stone (6-8, 3-0) with Game 1 on Tuesday at home.
Gautier (7-5, 2-0) will face Vancleave (9-6-1, 2-1) in a three-game series beginning Tuesday at home.
REGION 8-4A
Bay High vs. Poplarville
The Tigers and Hornets split their two-game series with Bay High winning at Poplarville 3-1 and Poplarville returning the favor 2-1 in Bay St. Louis.
Pass Christian vs. Moss Point
The Pirates took two games against the Tigers this past week, winning 8-1 and 11-1.
In the region this week
Bay High (4-10, 2-2) will play a road-and-home series against Perry Central beginning Tuesday.
Pass Christian (3-10, 2-2) will play a road-and-home series against Greene County beginning Tuesday.
Poplarville (8-9, 3-1) will face Moss Point (1-11, 0-2) in a two-game series beginning Tuesday at Moss Point.
REGION 8-3A
St. Patrick took two games against Tylertown on Wednesday but lost to Presbyterian Christian and Baker (Ala.) on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
St. Stanislaus split two games against Perry Central, winning 13-3 at home Tuesday and falling 4-2 in New Augusta on Thursday.
St. Stanislaus (8-5, 1-1) and St. Patrick (10-7, 3-0) will play a two-game series beginning Tuesday in Biloxi. The second game will be Wednesday in Bay St. Louis.
REGION 8-1A
Resurrection Catholic swept two games against Salem, winning 7-0 and 15-2 to keep its region victory streak intact.
The two-time defending state champion Eagles (14-2, 2-0) will play a couple of region games against East Marion this week.
