POPLARVILLE, Miss. – Pearl River head volleyball coach Haley Chatham announced the 2024 schedule on Thursday. The reigning NJCAA Region 23 Champions will host 10 matches in Shivers Gymnasium on PRCC’s Poplarville campus.
The Wildcats are coming off their third consecutive 20-win season, finishing 2023 with a 24-15 overall record, including a 5-1 mark against MACCC foes.
2024 SCHEDULE
The Wildcats open the regular season at home against Coastal Alabama-South on Aug. 22, followed by a home contest against Coastal Alabama-North on Aug. 24. Pearl River will compete in the Pensacola State Invitational on Aug. 30-31. On day one of the invitational, PRCC will face Calhoun and host Pensacola State. On day two, The River will play Garden City and Gadsden State.
Pearl River will open September at home against Bishop State on Sept. 3 before heading to Hanceville, Ala. to compete in the Alabama/Mississippi Crossover Tournament from Sept. 6-8. The Wildcats play Lurleen B. Wallace and Lawson State in day one of the tournament on Sept. 6. On day two, PRCC will face Reid State Technical and Wallace State. Pearl River will conclude the tournament by competing against Snead State and Calhoun on Sept. 8.
The Wildcats return home for back-to-back contests against Gadsden State on Sept. 9 and Lurleen B. Wallace on Sept. 13. Pearl River will travel to Gadsden State on Sept. 18 before opening MACCC play on the road at Northwest on Sept. 23. The River will stay on the road to face conference newcomers Meridian on Sept. 25.
Pearl River will travel to Coastal Alabama-North for a doubleheader against Bevill State and host Coastal Alabama-North on Sept. 28. PRCC closes out September at home against another MACCC newcomer, Jones, on Sept. 30.
The Wildcats will open October with three straight conference matches. PRCC will travel to Northeast on Oct. 2 before facing Itawamba and Northwest at home on Oct. 7 and Oct. 9, respectively.
PRCC will travel to Boaz, Ala. on Oct. 11-12 for the Snead State Classic. On Oct. 11, the Wildcats will face Bevill State and Walters State. The Wildcats will take on Wallace State and host Snead State on Oct. 12.
Pearl River will host Meridian on Oct. 14 and travel to Jones on Oct. 16. The Wildcats will close out conference play at home against Northeast on Oct. 21 and on the road at Itawamba on Oct. 23.
The River will close out the regular season with non-conference matchups. PRCC will host Enterprise State on Oct. 25 and travel to Lurleen B. Wallace and Coastal Alabama-South on Oct. 28 and Oct. 30, respectively.
ABOUT THE WILDCATS
With a growing MACCC, in 2024, Chatham will rely on returners Peyton Hoffmayer (Ocean Springs), who finished fourth on the team in 2023 with 138 kills, Madi King (Leaksville; Greene County), 53 kills, Madison Butler (Biloxi; D’Iberville) 121 assists and Allie Varner (Madison; Germantown) 100 digs and 10 service aces.
