PERKINSTON — Not much gets by Mississippi Gulf Coast keeper David Ruiz Ospina, either on the field or off.
He became eligible for the NJCAA Keeper of the Week award for the third time in his career by winning the MACCC equivalent Tuesday, and he’s 3-for-3 now converting it into the national award.
Ruiz Ospina, a sophomore from Manizales, Colombia, backstopped the Bulldogs’ 2-1 win over then-No 9 Heartland last week. His two saves were what it took to secure the victory.
The win helped vault Gulf Coast up five spots in the first regular-season rankings, which also came out Tuesday. The Bulldogs are sixth, the highest among MACCC teams after starting 3-0-1, including three games against teams which were in the top 20.
