After dropping two games in a row, the St. Martin Lady Yellowjackets bounced back at home against West Harrison Thursday night, beating the Lady Hurricanes 48-34.
The game was tight in the first half but St. Martin started to pull away in the third quarter leading 35-26 headed to the final frame. The Lady Yellowjackets never gave up the lead the rest of the way and were able to move to 5-3 on the season. West Harrison fell to 1-7.
St. Martin’s Jamiyra Robinson led all scorers with 15, while La’dymein Lafayette chipped in with 12. Sophomore guard Sydnei Barber paced West Harrison with 13 and Miranda Parker had 7.
West Harrison will play Pass Christian at home on Friday night with St. Martin hosting Blount out of Mobile on Saturday.
In the boys game, West Harrison started hot with Jamarcus Mccalebb hitting two 3-pointers in the first quarter pacing the way to the Hurricanes early 17-9 lead. With West Harrison maintaining a 28-18 at the half, St. Martin’s senior guard Tony Mora led a charge for the Yellowjackets in the third quarter scoring all of the Yellowjackets’ 11 points in that quarter including three, 3-pointers to cut the West Harrison lead to 33-29. However, West Harrison held St. Martin to only one point in the fourth quarter and the Hurricanes cruised to their fifth win.
Mora led all scorers with 19, with West Harrison’s Jazear Carter scoring 11 and Owen Reese chipping in with 10.
West Harrison, now 5-3, will host Pass Christian Friday night and winless St. Martin will host the Murphy Panthers.
