POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference announced its Academic Teams of the Year Tuesday morning, and Pearl River earned a pair of selections. Finishing the year with a 3.81 GPA, women’s soccer topped its competitors to win the award. Rodeo wrapped up the school year with a 3.30 GPA to snatch the award.
Not only did each team succeed in the classroom, but they also had success on the field. Women’s soccer ended the 2023 campaign with a 12-6-1 record and advanced to the Gulf South District Final for the first time in the Henrik Madsen era. PRCC climbed as high as eight in the NJCAA polls and was ranked in all 10 polls.
Rodeo’s women’s team was the Reserve Ozark Region Champion, which allowed the Wildcats to have a full four-person team at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo. PRCC also sent one individual from the men’s side to the event. The Wildcats earned a pair of top-20 finishes in the talent-heavy tournament.
Additionally, eight more Wildcat programs finished with at least a 3.0 GPA, including volleyball (3.45), softball (3.44), baseball (3.37), men’s soccer (3.34), women’s basketball (3.32), cheer (3.20) and men’s golf (3.02). During the 2023-24 school year, PRCC had 120 named to the fall President’s and Dean’s List, and 111 were named to the lists in the spring. The Wildcats also had 16 athletes named to the College Sports Communicators All-District Team and one named a CSC Academic All-American.
