We appear to be rounding into mid-season form, and thankfully so since its actually already past the mid-season mark.

Rock’s Locks went 11-2 last week and stands 68-23 for right at 75% on the season, for a winning percentage of right at 75 percent. There are some mighty interesting region games on tap this week, with plenty of action for local football fans to pick from.

Also, don’t forget about the Pascagoula Men’s Club 5th annual “Downtown BBQ Throwdown” that kicks off Friday night and then really kicks into gear all day Saturday on Delmas Ave., in Pascagoula right down from Scranton’s. There’s sure to be some great food, good music and nifty arts and crafts to be had, so don’t dare miss it Y’all. .

“I had a barbecue stain on my white t-shirt, she was killing me in that miniskirt…skippin’ rocks on the river by the railroad tracks…”

  1. Ocean Springs at Harrison Central — A battle for supremacy in Region 4-7A unfolds Friday night in Lyman at Earl Phillips Stadium as the Greyhounds come calling on the Red Rebels. Ocean Springs is the two-time, back-to-back region champs in Region 4-6A before both of these teams along with four others from that former league moved up with expansion this year. Both teams stand an impressive 5-1 on the season, but the Greyhounds have won 15 straight region games. By the way, the last league loss for OSHS came at the hands of the Red Rebels almost three years ago. Ocean Springs 30, Harrison Central 21.
  2. George County at Hancock — A pair of teams with perfect 1-0 marks in region 4-6A play face off at Brett Favre Field in the Kiln Friday night, as the Rebels and Hawks meet for the first time in seven seasons. This proves to be a battle of two of the top quarterbacks in the “Southern Six” as George County’s Deuce Knight and Hancock’s Dylan Moran square off. The Hawks, the lone unbeaten team left in the “Southern Six”, are 7-0 for the first time in 23 years. This one is a bit tricky, but we’ll give a shaky nod to…George County 27, Hancock 26.
  3. West Harrison at Picayune — The Maroon Tide is the other unbeaten team in Region 4-6A after one week of play, and they host the Hurricanes at Lee-Triplett Stadium this week. Picayune is also a perfect 10-0 all-time in this series, with a 10-0 advantage. We’re not convinced that many, if any, of the next 10 games are gonna turn out any different than did the first 10 for West Harrison. Picayune 35, West Harrison 13.
  4. Gulfport at D’Iberville — The third unbeaten team in Region 7-4A in addition to OSHS and HCHS after one week of action is the Admirals, and they sail into Warrior Stadium to face home-standing DHS Friday night. These two teams have evenly split the past four meetings in this now annual series, but they’ve only met 15 times total overall. We like the visitors. Gulfport 28, D’Iberville 12.
  5. Gautier at Wayne County — Yet another battle between a pair of unbeaten teams in league play so far takes place in Waynesboro as the Gators head to the home of the War Eagles. Both squads opened Region 4-5A play with a win, and the winner of this game takes a major step towards securing a Class 5A South State playoff berth. This is a rematch from the opening round of the playoffs last year, a 38-21 Gautier victory. It was the first actual win on the field win for the Gators in this series after WCHS took the first six meetings. Can the Gators make it two straight…??? No. Wayne County 31, Gautier 30.
  6. St. Stanislaus at St. Patrick — This all “Southern Six” meeting in Region 8-3A takes place this week as the Fighting Irish host the Rock-A-Chaws in Gulfport. The Rocks are 1-0 in league play, but St. Pat is 0-2 and in dire need of a league win if making the state playoffs for just the fifth time in school history is in their plans this season. A win secures a playoff berth for the Rocks, and a loss by SPHS results in a do-or-die situation in Tylertown next week. St. Stanislaus 41, St. Patrick 14.
  7. Stone at Vancleave — A pair of teams in dire need of a win, any win, face off in Jackson County this week. The Bulldogs are 1-5, and have lost five straight games, and the Tomcats aren’t much better at 2-4 and come in with two straight losses. With both teams coming off losses in their respective Region 4-5A openers, another loss in this one in all likelihood means no playoff appearance this year. Another tough one to call, but for different reasons. Stone 7, Vancleave 6.

A Six Pack to go:

Resurrection 22, East Marion 7

Laurel 27, East Central 14

Pass Christian 46, Moss Point 6

Pascagoula 39, Long Beach 13

Biloxi 28, St. Martin 12

Terry 50, Pearl River Central 15
