BILOXI — So what did you do Friday night?
Biloxi’s Jalen Anderson produced one of the best all-around football performances in the 120-year-plus history of the Indian program history Friday night.
The speedy versatile junior standout scored a touchdown in three different phases of the game against visiting George County at the Biloxi Sports Complex as Biloxi bombed the Rebels 34-14 to move to 2-1 on the young season. The swifty 5-foot-9 Anderson hauled in a key 45-yard scoring pass on the final play of the first half, and then he returned an interception 47 yards for a touchdown and also added a 14-yard scoop and score in the Indians’ big win.
And, he also blocked a punt in the first quarter that Bryce Hooker and picked up and scored from 14 yards out as well.
Anderson was also part of a Biloxi defense that basically all but shut down what had been a pretty impressive George County offense in the first two weeks of the season. The Rebels came in averaging over 300 yards per game on the ground in their brief two-game win streak to open the season, but Anderson, Hooker and their tribe held George County to just 83 yards rushing.
George County is now 2-1.
Biloxi jumped out to a quick lead it would never relinquish on the first series of the game, as after receiving the opening kickoff the Indians immediately marched to a quick score when Zach Marlin hooked up with Tristan Haynes on a 54-yard scoring strike to make it 6-0 less than two minutes into the contest.
Anderson’s first big play of many on the night came early in the second stanza, as he raced from his spot at right end and slammed the attempted Rebel punt down on the turf where hooker scooped up the ball and made it 13-0 with 10:27 to play before halftime.
But Anderson wasn’t finished, as on the final play before intermission, he leaped for a loft from Marlin and came down with the ball and then scooted the final 20 yards to put the Indians up 20-0 at halftime.
The Rebels decided to show a little fight as the third quarter unfolded, as Breen Moody scored on a seven-yard run to cut into the deficit and make it 20-7 entering the final period.
But Anderson had an answer, as his scoop and score swung the momentum back to the Indians and made it 27-7 with just over 10 minutes to play. Tristan Bourcy was good on four extra points for BHS.
Just minutes later, Anderson was back at it as he picked off a Rebel pass and streaked the 47 yards to paydirt to seal the win for Biloxi.
George County’s Gage Reeves ended the scoring as he kept from 6 yards out to result in the final count.
