POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Solid performances from Pearl River women’s basketball’s Avery Young (Iota, La.) and baseball’s Austin Tommasini (Madison; Madison Central) have helped the pair take home the Wildcat of the Week award.
AVERY YOUNG
Young had a great week for the Wildcats, helping them to bounce back from a loss with two wins. Across victories over Northwest and Southwest, Young averaged 14 points, eight assists and six rebounds. She was one shy of a double-double. Against Northwest, bringing in 14 points and nine rebounds before accomplishing a double-double against Southwest with 14 points and 10 assists.
Young has been solid all season long and currently sits fourth on the team in points per game with a mark of 8.3. She also averages 3.8 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.
AUSTIN TOMMASINI
Tommasini was lights-out as a reliever for PRCC last week. Against Coastal Alabama-South, the Mississippi State transfer threw 1 2/3 innings, allowing one unearned run on two walks and a strikeout. Later in the week, he was handled the ball against Murray State and delivered three innings of one hit, three strikeout baseball to earn the save.
The right-hander has made five appearances for the Wildcats this season and has notched one win and one save. Through 10 innings pitched, his ERA sits at 0.00, and his WHIP is .70. He has struck out nine batters.
