PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast almost stole a split from No. 13 Hinds on Wednesday, but a late rally in the nightcap fell a run short.
The Eagles won 7-3 and 5-4 at Ross-Smith Field.
The Bulldogs (31-17, 13-8 MACCC) trailed 4-0 after four, but got an RBI double from Jett Harrell (So., Clarksdale/Lee Academy) in the fifth.
Shaylynn Hoak (Fr., Vancleave/Vancleave) had a bases-loaded double in the sixth to make it 4-3, but Jorja Roberson (So., Branyan/East Union) drilled a line drive right at the shortstop and a popup ended the threat.
After a Hinds solo homer, Aleah Beaugez (Fr., D’Iberville/D’Iberville) doubled in a run with nobody out in the seventh, but Gulf Coast couldn’t get her past third to tie it.
In the opener, AB Parrish (Fr., Corinth/Alcorn Central) hit her first collegiate homer in the third to bring Gulf Coast within 3-1. Beaugez delivered an RBI single later in the inning.
Harrell homered in the fifth for the final run of the game. She had three hits in the game.
Gulf Coast will play Northwest Mississippi in a doubleheader that’s been moved to Friday because of the threat of rain this weekend. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
