The Hancock Lady Hawks, behind the hot shooting of Brooklyn Cuevas, continued their winning ways by toppling fourth-seeded West Jones 62-47 Friday night in Kiln in the opening round of the Class 6A girls basketball tournament.
Cuevas poured in 33 points, including seven 3-pointers, to pace Hancock to its 29th victory of the season against only one defeat.
Cuevas had 10 points in the first half for the division champion Lady Hawks, who led 17-11 after the first quarter and 26-18 at halftime.
The Lady Hawks extended their lead to 44-31 after three quarters as Cuevas tallied eight points in the third and Bishop netted six.
Cuevas lit it up in the fourth quarter, hitting three 3-pointers, a 2-pointer and four free throws. Bishop finished with 15 points.
K. Carr topped West Jones in scoring with 11 points and M. Russell added 10.
Hancock, which won 27 games last season, continues its quest for a state title on Feb. 23 at home against Forest Hill, which defeated West Harrison 36-28.
