Prep hoops: 20 teams from across 3 states converged on Biloxi this week

The 6th annual Lady Indians Christmas Classic took place on the campus of Biloxi High School this week with 20 girls’ teams from across three different states taking part in the two-day affair making it one of, if not the, biggest all-girls holiday tourneys in the state of Mississippi as well as the Gulf South region.

On Wednesday, 10 games took place at the Biloxi High gym. In early action, it was Davidson 57, Picayune 21 and Blount 37, Moss Point 31. Also, it was Diberville 56, Vigor 45, and Pontotoc 60, Wayne County 42.
In other action on day one, it was Lafayette County 53, Ocean Springs 47 in a tightly contested contest as well as Clinton beat Pascagoula 73-49 and Hancock beat Madison Central 49-35.
The host Lady Indians hammered North Pike in the final game Wednesday night 47-12, after holding the Lady Jags scoreless in the first half.

On Thursday, 10 games took place again with five games being played on two separate courts in the Biloxi Junior High Gym. Moss Point beat Picayune 39-30 and D’Iberville knocked of Davidson 43-38. Hancock beat Clinton 53-49 and Pascagoula beat North Pike 45-44. Ocean Springs beat Vigor 56-40.
The last game of the event ended with Biloxi beating LeFlore 32-13 in a game that ended at halftime when the opposing team left the building.

Meanwhile, the Gulfport Lady Admirals traveled to Jackson to compete in one of the top prep basketball events annually in the state this week. The Jackson Public Schools Holiday Showcase is a three-day event that takes place at three different sites.
The Lady Admirals beat Holmes County Central 55-43 Monday at Forrest Hill High and then played Jackson Murrah at 10:30 Tuesday morning at the same venue. On Wednesday Gulfport wrapped up play taking on home-standing Jackson Lanier at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon and the Lady Admirals pulled out a 59-34 win.
In Carriere on Thursday and Friday, Pearl River Central High School was the host to the PRC Holiday Tournament.
The host Lady Devils defeated Poplarville Friday night 51-24 to win the PRC Holiday tournament championship. and move to 12-6 overall on the year.
The Lady Devils defeated Stone Thursday afternoon 45-12 as Emily Carroll poured in a game-high 21 points.
The Poplarville Lady Hornets nipped St. Martin on the first day of play 45-43 Thursday to push Poplarville into the finals. St. Martin was set to face Stone in the consolation game Friday afternoon and the Lady Yellow Jackets won 55-19.

Most prep teams in the “Southern Six” began region play this coming week, although a few have already played a league game earlier this month.
