POPLARVILLE, Miss. — It was an electric week for Pearl River softball’s Lainee Bailey (Walker, La.) and baseball’s Hollis Porter (Hurley; East Central), earning the pair a Wildcat of the Week selection.

LAINEE BAILEY
Not only did the Southeastern Louisana transfer get it done in the circle, but she also excelled at the plate. As a pitcher, Bailey wrapped up the week with 11 innings pitched, striking out 17 batters and walking none. She allowed just six hits and one run. As a hitter, Bailey went 8-for-11 to finish the week with a .727 batting average. She collected six extra-base hits, which included two homers, two triples and two doubles. She drove in five runs and walked twice. Bailey helped PRCC sweep Lurleen B. Wallace 10-0 and 10-2 before defeating Angelina College 6-0 and Baton Rouge 1-0 in the Mardis Gras Invitational.

HOLLIS PORTER
The Mississippi State transfer made his mark in his first action of the year for Pearl River. After helping PRCC take down Coastal Alabama-South 6-2 to begin the season, Porter continued to shine in the Perfect Game Panama City Beach College Baseball Classic. Pearl River lost to Gulf Coast State 2-1 before picking up a 7-0 victory over Dyersburg State, a 6-3 win over No. 16 Florida Southwestern and a 14-0 run-rule of Miami Dade. For the entire week, Porter went 9-for-18 for a .500 batting average. He collected four RBIs, four runs, four doubles, two homers, one walk and one stolen base.

NEXT UP
Baseball returns to Dub Herring Park on Friday for a 2/5 p.m. doubleheader against Baton Rouge. Softball heads to Dothan, Ala. on Saturday to compete in a tournament hosted by Chipola. The schedule is still to be determined.
